Arley Arboretum is among the oldest Arboretums in Great Britain. Hidden away in the lovely country of the Worcestershire and Shropshire borders near Bewdley, it has more than 300 species of trees in formal and informal plantings and gardens.The collection includes many rare and impressive domestic and exotic trees. Snuggling in the Severn Valley and overlooking the brook, it's been growing and maturing in this idyllic setting for 2 centuries. This beautiful location nestles in the Severn Valley on the borders or Worcestershire and Shropshire.
Its tranquillity and peace is only punctuated by the occasional whistle from the steam engines on the Severn Valley Train line . There are thirty acres of garden and nursery to explore.The Arboretum contains over six hundred species with some of the biggest and oldest examples in the country.
The Italian Garden features formal plantings, grand water features, a church and dovecot help in making this relaxed walled garden a special place in the nursery. Close to the Italian Garden is the picnic area with the wildfowl collection.For the spring there's a Camellia Avenue and a Magnolia Garden as well as Rhododendrons and Azaleas with all of their superb color, plus many spring-flowering bulbs.
The wood is a paradise for wildlife with many unusual species of flora and fauna. There'll be 2 in depth led tours with the Head Gardener lasting about one hours starting at 11am and 2pm - places are limited and on a first-come basis - please book on the day ( further charge applies ). Home-cooked light refreshments available in the garden cafeteria. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome, and "cornhole scoopers" will be available at the ticket office.
