Northwood Halt

Northwood Halt is an request stop on the Severn Valley Train line in Worcestershire, situated a little to the north of Bewdley on the edges of the Wyre Forest. There's a level crossing solely to the south of the single platform. It's the only surviving original halt on the line. The halt first opened in June 1935 and was in use till the end of English Railways passenger services beyond Bewdley in 1963. Although thought by some of the people to have once been closed as a part of the Beeching axe in 1963 its planned closure pre-dated his report. It was well employed by fishermen, travelers and visitors, and was re-opened right after the SVR's southerly extension of services in 1974.

Northwood Halt isn't included in the general public timetable.A train going through Northwood Halt, with the level crossing apparent. The level crossing is now guarded by light signals and an audible alert ; this system replaced hand-operated gates, the scene of 2 major accidents in 1947 and 1964. On reopening the sole shelter for passengers waiting for trains was a wooden shed.

This was afterwards replaced with a GWR style pagoda that was made by volunteers at Kidderminster.Today Northwood Halt is a request stop. Passengers must raise an arm facing the coming train and inform the guard when returning before they board the train. The halt is unstaffed so passengers must be purchase a tickets on the train.

Because of the non-provision of lighting on the platform trains will only call during sunlight hours. The opposite level crossing is now guarded by color light signals and an audible caution. The level crossing was the scene of two heavy accidents in 1947 and 1964. The halt features an important one coach length grassy platform and new pagoda style building which replaced the prior life expired wooden structure. The pagoda was built through the mixed effort of Mates of Kidderminster City Station & Bewdley Station Staff and was partly subsidized by numerous sponsors. The building was erected on site in March 2006 year and is the 1st pagoda to be made from scratch with all new parts since the end of the GWR in 1948.
