Towns and Villages Shropshire

Shropshire has no towns, but twenty-two cities, of which two can be considered major. Telford is the biggest city in the county with a population of 138,241 ( which is roughly thirty percent of the total Salopian citizens ) ; whereas the county city of Shrewsbury has a lower, but still big population of 70,560 ( 15% ).The other big towns are Oswestry, Bridgnorth, Newport and Ludlow. The significant city of Wellington now makes up part of the Telford conurbation. Most of the other settlements can be classed as hamlets or tiny cities like Much Wenlock. The bigger settlements are basically concentrated in a central belt that approximately follows the A5 / M54 roadway. Other settlements are focused on streams, e.g. Ironbridge on the Severn, as these waterways were traditionally vital to trade.

The economy of Shropshire was historically controlled by agriculture. However, in more recent times it's become more service oriented. The county city of Shrewsbury, the significant castle-dominated Ludlow, the World Olympic Movement's birthplace Much Wenlock and the business birthplace of Ironbridge Gorge are the premier holiday maker areas in Shropshire, together with the reclaimed canal network which provides canal barge vacations on the Shropshire Union Canal and linked canal networks in the area, though the natural wonder of the county draws folks to all areas. Industry is generally found in Telford, Oswestry, Whitchurch, Market Drayton and Shrewsbury, though tiny business estates can be discovered in and Church Stretton and Newport where the primary industrial factory Audco, closed in 1982.

The city has then started to move more towards a rural and traveller industry very like Ludlow, though industry starts to build along the outskirts of the city on the A41 road, due to its possession on the route between Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Staffordshire and the north. Shrewsbury is starting to become a centre for distribution and warehousing, as it is found on a nodal point of the regional road network.

Shropshire Council has a totally complete education system, with 13 independent faculties, including the respected Shrewsbury College , which Charles Darwin attended. In the ceremonial county, the Telford and Wrekin borough has 2 selective faculties, Adams ' Grammar College and Newport Girls ' school ( each of which are ranked in the top 30 schools in the country ), and the independent preparatory school Castle House, all of which are found in Newport. Thomas Telford College in Telford is also a notable college and is among the best secondary schools in England.

There is substantial contention between plenty of the county's colleges. In Shrewsbury as an example, the Monastery and Meole Brace faculties maintain a long-standing sporting competition while on a broader scale Wrekin Varsity and Ellesmere School remain rivals, as do Shrewsbury College and Adams ' Grammar College .
