The whole train line is among the most comprehensively signalled heritage railways. The entire train line is signalled using GW style lower quadrant signals, apart from 2 oddities including a lower-quadrant London & North Western Train line shunting signal in the Dn Yard at Bewdley. All sections between Bewdley North and Bridgnorth operate using the Tyer's Electric Train Token. The Engineers siding at Eardington is controlled by a ground frame.
No intermediate instrument token is provided as the ground frame is released by utilisation of the long section token ( Bridgnorth Highley ). Between Bewdley South and Bewdley North the double track section through platforms one & two is signalled with absolute block. The single track through platform three is signalled with direction lever. The line farthest from the key station buildings, called the Rock siding, is a double-ended siding. The single line railway section between Bewdley South and Kidderminster is track circuited throughout and is signalled using acknowledgment lever.
The majority of the signal boxes on the line bear original iron GWR name plates, with the only exception being at Bridgnorth which has a copy. The SVR Kidderminsters name plate was recovered from another signal box that previously stood on the up end of the down platform at Kidderminster station (Network Rail). The lever frame from the same signal box was reuse at Arley, that has an LNWR signal box after the first was demolished.
The copy name plate at Bridgnorth is made from fibre glass, though it isn't known if it was moulded from the first or whether or not the original still exists. With the exception of the 2 request halts ( Country Park and Northwood ) all intermediate stations have the power to pass trains on the single line. Nevertheless Highley's passing loop lacks a platform, meaning trains carrying fare-paying passengers may not use this loop.Nonetheless it is often used for works trains, demonstration products trains and empty stock workings. Notwithstanding this, the Severn Valley Railway offers, presumably, the most thorough service on any single line heritage train line.
A short section of the multiple track exists between Bewdley South and Bewdley North signal boxes. Kidderminster City station isn't an original station. It was made by the SVR based on the first GWR station at Ross-on-Wye ( 1892 ). Varied projects have been carried out by volunteers and contractors to add to the general GWR atmosphere. Major projects include the porte cochre to the front of the station, the decorative crestings on the 2 towers and the cover over the concourse which was finished in 2006, with the final, east, wing of the station. There are plans to provide new catering and toilet facilities at Bridgnorth. This is going to be provided in a new building of an extension to the key station building. If the later option is selected this is going to be a comparatively hard project thanks to the need to stay compassionate to the Grade II listed original, being adequately subtle and making the best of an highly cramped site.
