What is Severn Valley Railway?

The Severn Valley Railway is a heritage train line in Shropshire and Worcestershire, England. The 16 mile (26 km) line runs along Severn Valley from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, following the course of the Stream Severn for most of its route.Train services are hauled generally by steam locomotives ; however diesel traction is also occasionally used. The train line is among the most well liked heritage railways in the country.

The Engine House

The Engine House, built on land opposite to the station at Highley provides covered accommodation for locomotives currently out of service, displays of other rolling stock, and an education / interpretation centre.Even though it was lined up to be open mid / late 2007, the intended opening dates were impacted by the flood damage at Highley station with rail access to the site eventually being installed in March 2008.

Signalling

The whole train line is among the most comprehensively signalled heritage railways. The entire train line is signalled using GW style lower quadrant signals, apart from 2 oddities including a lower-quadrant London & North Western Train line shunting signal in the Dn Yard at Bewdley. All sections between Bewdley North and Bridgnorth operate using the Tyer's Electric Train Token. The Engineers siding at Eardington is controlled by a ground frame.

Severn Valley Railway on the Screen

The Severn Valley Railway operates steam passenger trains between Bridgnorth, Bewdley and Kidderminster. Trains run each weekend and daily May to Sep and local college vacations. The most effective way to see the great thing about the Brook Severn is from a steam-hauled train on the Severn Valley Train line .The Severn Valley Train line has had its home in the city of Bridgnorth, Shropshire since 1965.

Severn Valley Railway Extension

Northwards :The plan to grow North was mooted by groups in the SVR as early as the mid 1970s, the 1st plan was discharged as most unlikely by the then board of the SVR.Nonetheless contemporary successes by others in getting big amounts of money from the Heritage Lotto Fund and the EU Regional Development Fund for example. Have caused this intense view to moderate.
